International SIM / Global SIM

One question that we are often asked is;
Do you offer a SIM card that can cover several destinations?

At last the answer is YES! Previously we had bad experiences with International SIM cards and were extremely reluctant to promote them (see text at the bottom of the page). However, we have now developed a unique International SIM (also referred to as a Global SIM card) that offers both a cost effective and reliable, robust solution to global roaming charges.

Our International SIM card offers a completely “roam free” service. Incoming calls are FREE in 60+ destinations, calls back to the UK start from just 30p/min and best of all the SIM card has a UK mobile number. It operates across 130 destinations and, based on several thousands sold to date, we have had very positive feedback from users across all aspects of its functionality.

UK Phone number
The unique feature of the Global SIM card is its UK number. Many Global SIM card operators provide a Liechtenstein or an Estonian mobile number, consequently their call quality is not as high and it costs 45p/min+ (depending on the landline provider) to call the SIM card!!

Our Global SIM has a UK (Isle of Man 07924…) mobile phone number. Therefore from a BT landline* it only costs 13p/min (peak) and 8p/min (after 6 pm) to call the SIM wherever it is in the world!

This means that your contacts save a massive 70% when calling our SIM card as opposed to calling any other Global SIM. This is a vital consideration to make if you want to be regularly contacted by friends, family and business colleagues whilst abroad.

(*If you use a service other than BT please check with your land line or mobile service provider the exact cost to call a UK Isle of Man (07624 or 07924) number, as prices vary.)

Our experience of other International SIM cards
The problems that we previously encountered with other international SIM cards are as follows:

  • Often a foreign telephone number (generally Liechtenstein) is associated with the SIM. So if you are expecting inbound calls from the country that you are in, it can cost a lot more to call than a local SIM, this added cost often deters callers and is to be considered when purchasing an International SIM card.

  • At least three Global SIM or International SIM providers were forced into administration during 2006/7 as a result of fragile business models and sadly more may follow in these harsher economic times. Consequently many users have been left without a means of communication mid-way through their travels, hence our desire to provide a reliable and robust solution rather than just the cheapest. The current eKit Global SIM we now offer is, we consider, the best on the market.

  • Some companies proclaim to be providing an international mobile solution, however all they are doing is a clever marketing ploy. By re-branding an O2 SIM card they claim to offer international coverage at favorable rates when in fact they are identical to standard roaming charges. Please compare the charges with www.o2.co.uk if you intend to purchase an International SIM card.

    They do not offer the customer service, features (SMS etc) or the reliability of national network operators.

We welcome any feedback on Global and International SIM cards. Thankfully at last we can provide the call quality, reliability and savings that we have all been looking for!
