We are the UK’s leading supplier of South African SIM cards. By purchasing an MTN South African SIM you can avoid all mobile roaming charges, receive incoming calls for free, call the UK for an amazing 15p/min and have your new local South African number before you leave the UK.
How does the Pay-As-You-Go service work?
All you need to do is ensure that your mobile handset is unlocked and then simply switch your UK SIM card for your new South African SIM card on arrival. The South African SIM card works on a Pay-As-You-Go basis therefore to continue using the SIM card you need to purchase top-up vouchers locally in South Africa. Top-Up vouchers can be purchased at 1000’s of retail outlets (garages, supermarkets, mobile phone stores, kiosks, convenience stores etc).
VAT is not applicable as the service is only available within South Africa.
All costs are approximate due to exchange rate variances. GBP prices are intended for illustration and comparison only.
The first minute is billed as one complete minute; thereafter you are billed on a 60 second basis. Prices above are subject to change
MTN SIM registration
Since July 2009 South African law requires that all pre and post paid SIM cards from national networks are correctly registered under the newly introduced RICA controls. All MTN SIM cards provided by 0044 are pre-registered accordingly and will ensure that, on arrival, there are no further administrative steps required by the user at local level.
Coverage
Our MTN South African SIM card offers great coverage in South Africa, covering all major towns and cities. To review the coverage map please click here. Please check the coverage before you depart as unfortunately we cannot issue a refund for poor coverage.
Validity
To keep your account active you must top it up at least once every 90 days or the number will expire. If you do not add any calling credit within a 30 day period, your remaining credit will be lost. You may still receive incoming calls for free even if your credit has expired. Once the SIM card and number has expired then it cannot be reactivated.
Recharging your MTN SIM
Adding credit to your account is simple and can be done through thousands of national retailers by asking for an MTN mobile top up and paying with cash or a credit card.
