Get a Spanish Pay-As-You-Go SIM card and save up to 80% versus roaming. Call between two SIMs for FREE! Receive calls for free and call the UK from Spain from just 6p/min.
What do I get for my money?
The Happy Movil Spanish Pay-as-you-go SIM is a brand new product and has been created by one of the largest mobile phone retailers in Europe; The Phone House Group, part of The Carphone Warehouse in the UK. In addition to the great call savings you get €5.00 FREE calling credit, English Instructions and much more.
How does the service work?
All you need to do is ensure that your mobile handset is unlocked and then simply switch your UK SIM card for your new Spanish SIM card on arrival. The Spanish SIM card works on a Pay-As-You-Go basis therefore when your credit runs low all you need to do is purchase additional credit in retail outlets nationwide. Coverage is provided in mainland Spain as well as The Balearics and Canary Isles.
Calls are billed on a per second basis, additional minutes are charged in per second intervals. A per call connection fee of 33p applies to international calls. Local calls are billed per second and a 14p connection fee applies.
*The local call set up fee applies to calls between 2 Happy Movil SIMs but there is no ongoing per minute charge.
Calling Plans
In Spain all calls to Spanish landlines and mobiles cost just 16p/min, and calls and texts to other Happy Movil users are FREE*! Texts to other Spanish networks cost 12p each.
International Calls
Calls to the UK and Ireland cost 6p/min to a landline and 19p/min to a UK mobile with text messages costing 44p each.
SIM Activation and Registration
The Happy Movil Spanish SIM card is activated automatically upon arrival in Spain with the first call and the Spanish phone number is available inside the pack prior to departure. It will not roam outside of Spain and cannot be activated before arrival. With the increased security surrounding in-bound travel to Spain and greater data protection policies there is a requirement by law to provide identification to the network and this registration must be completed upon receiving the SIM and ahead of departure. You will be required to confirm your passport number (one passport per SIM purchased), name and nationality as well as SIM ID number and agree to that information being securely held by the Spanish network. This is a routine procedure similar to that now required by the airlines and other travel companies and your information will be safeguarded under the data protection act.
Topping Up
To continue to use the Spanish SIM card you must purchase top-up vouchers locally in Spain. Top-Up vouchers can be purchased at many retail outlets and convenience stores, but predominantly through The Phone House Stores with Euros. Vouchers or electronic top ups are available in a wide variety of points of sale (kiosks, tobacconists, money transfer points, El Corte Ingles and Telecor stores), also available in most of the banks ATMs but only with a Spanish bank card. During 2008 Spanish Post Offices will also offer top ups. For Phone House Store locations in Spain click here (External link). Credit levels can be checked by dialing a short code from the mobile while in Spain.
Coverage
Please check the coverage before you depart unfortunately we can not issue a refund for poor coverage. However our SIM card offers coverage for 92%+ of the population. The Happy Movil card offers coverage for mainland Spain, the Balearics and the Canaries. To see the coverage map please click here.
Validity
To keep your account active you must top it up at least once every 6 months. If you do not add any calling credit within a 6 month period, your remaining credit will be lost. The credit that you add is valid until the SIM expires and each top you make will ‘refresh’ the SIM validity for the 6 month period. Once the SIM is first activated with a call on arrival in Spain the 5 Euros credit is available. You will receive an additional bonus top up of 5 Euros if you add a further 10 Euros providing this is done within 45 days of first activation. Credit can be easily checked by using a short dial code on the handset.
Customer Service
Customer service is provided 24/7 by Happy Movil and English speaking operators are available on request (Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm).
