How does the service work?
All you need to do is ensure that you have an unlocked Tri-Band mobile handset and then simply switch your UK SIM card for your new USA SIM card on arrival. The USA SIM card works on a Pay-As-You-Go basis therefore in order to continue to use the SIM card you must purchase top-up vouchers. Top-Up vouchers can be purchased online or over the phone. The SIM card can be purchased with $25 calling credit.

Incoming Call & SMS Charges
Please note in America you pay exactly the same to receive a call and SMS as you do to make a call. However, all international calls and SMS received are charged at the local rate.

International Calls from just 18p/min
With Jolt mobile you pay exactly the same to make an international call to a landline as you do a local call within the USA. This means that it only costs just 18p/min to call a UK landline from the USA! Calls to international mobiles cost an extra 13p/min, so it will cost you 32p/min to call a UK mobile! That is a saving of 75% compared to roaming.

Validity
To keep your account active you must top-up within 30 days of initial SIM activation or your last top up. Top ups can be made by calling Jolt customer services in the USA or via the jolt website as described in your user guide. The SIM remains active and calling credit lasts 30 days from the date of top-up and any unused credit will roll over once another top-up has been made. If you do not top up within the 30 day period the SIM and credit will expire. The SIM can also be re-activated with a top up made within 30 days of the credit expiring thus providing a potential 60 day period of re-activation from the last top up.
Triband Handset
In the USA, GSM operators use GSM 850 or 1900 frequency. Therefore you need either a tri-band or a dual band handset that has GSM 850 or 1900 capability, otherwise your mobile handset will not work in the USA. Here is a list of some of the best-selling Tri-Band handsets that will work in the USA and most of the world. Please check that your handset is tri-band compatible before departing.
Additional Credit
Since the SIM card does not come with any credit, a $25 Top-Up voucher must be purchased during the check out process. Therefore if you purchase a SIM with $25 credit it will cost you approximately £33.15.
USA local number
With the Jolt USA SIM you are able to obtain a US number local to the area you will be staying. This means you can benefit from local rate calls within that area whilst still being able to use the SIM anywhere across the USA were coverage exists. The local number is provided upon activating the SIM 48 hrs before you depart and is based on the ZIP code (US postal code) you will be asked for during activation.
