The global data SIM card provides coverage in over 100 countries worldwide. These countries are divided into three zoned regions below. Data bundles for 200/500MB and 1GB are available for all three zones, with zone 3 having the added benefit of a smaller 100MB bundle. The per MB rates quoted below are approximate and based on 1GB data bundle being purchased and all data being consumed before expiry.

Converting Data Bundles
 You can add any data bundle from any of the three zones to your data SIM regardless of the initial SIM & bundle you bought. For instance, if you bought the SIM and zone 2 bundle, used half of the bundle, then decided to travel to Kenya (covered by zone 3 bundles), you could upgrade the remaining data of the zone 2 bundle to work in zone 3 by paying the small difference in cost of the bundles - confirmed via your on-line account. You could also add a new zone 3 bundle and this would be queued behind your remaining zone 2 bundle. The zone 3 bundle will then start as soon as the zone 2 bundle is fully used up.

  • How does the service work?

    We provide you with a data sim card which works in any unlocked device to access the Internet at lower rates than roaming. Simply top it up on your on-line account with a data bundle of your choice, by selecting the zone you will visit and the size of the data bundle you need. This bundle will last for 30 days, and then you are free to top it up again as many times as you wish.

  • Do I need to register or to activate the sim?

    Registration or activation is not required with this data sim. Just purchase a data bundle of your choice via your on-line account and then pop the sim into your device to start using the Internet. However, we recommend setting up your on-line account before you travel so you can access the many useful features available.

  • Phone Unlocking

    Please check that your phone is not locked to your current provider. If you aren't sure if it is then the simplest way to check this is to put a sim card from a different operator into your device and see if it will work. If this works your device is unlocked. If your phone is locked you can get it unlocked by your operator or from local phone shops.

  • What type of devices can the data sim card be used with?

    The sim works with most smartphones and tablets - if inserted to a USB dongle or MiFi mobile hotspot device you can connect your laptop computer to receive data.

  • Should data roaming be turned on or off?

    Data roaming must be switched on, therefore if you are inserting the sim directly into your smartphone or tablet computer then you should turn data roaming on.If you are using a MiFi to broadcast data to your smartphone or tablet computer, we recommend that data roaming is turned off in your phone, but on in the MiFi. This is to ensure that you don't accidentally use the Internet on your phone's internal sim.

  • Can I use the data sim for calls and SMS?

    No this sim card is only enabled for mobile data

  • How can I use voice and SMS on my device?

    If you want to use voice function we recommend using a DualSim phone or a MiFi device. The DualSim phone will split the data and voice between the respective sim cards allowing you to maintain full functionality while abroad.


    Alternatively using a MiFi device to "tether" the data so that your phone can pick the signal up just like it would pick up a normal WiFi network. Once you switch off data roaming on your phone you can use the data services and maintain normal voice functionality through your handset. Tethering is only recommended using an unlocked mifi device as smartphone and other device tethering can be influenced by network settings and is not guaranteed.
There are a range of apps available such as Skype and Whatsapp that allow you to use voice and text functionality. You only need a data connection to access these services so the data sim doesn't exclude you from this.

  • Do I need to change any settings?

    In most countries no APN (Access Point Name) settings are required for this sim, however if you have any issues connecting to the Internet then try changing the APN name to "fast.m2m", and leave the username and password blank. The settings are likely to be in the Cellular Data section of your device.

    Settings Instructions;

    A) If inserting the sim directly inside an iPhone / iPad or other Apple device:



    1. Remember to be certain that your phone/tablet is unlocked.

    2. Turn cellular data and data roaming to on in your phone or tablet, this is in Settings -> Cellular.

    3. Find your APN settings. This should be in Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data or Cellular Data Network

    4. Enter the APN name “fast.m2m” and leave all other fields blank.



    B) If using the sim inside an external device such as a MiFi router (detailed instructions shown here for a TP-Link router – other devices are similar but will vary):



    1. Turn data roaming to off in your phones and/or tablets, this should be in Settings -> Cellular.

    2. Put the sim and battery in the MiFi and turn it on, and in your phone/tablet’s wifi settings connect to the MiFi device’s wireless signal. The Device ID and password are on the inside of the MiFi’s back cover.
  • Can I buy Micro or Nano sized sim cards?

    Yes the data sim is available in any size to fit all devices. Please read your operator's manual if you are unsure which size you need.

  • Can I use the sim in a Blackberry?

    Everything will work as normal, except for using BIS which is not currently supported. There is a workaround however - we would recommend that you use a MiFi to tether the signal to your Blackberry as you will then have full functionality.

  • Does the sim card expire?

    The sim card will only expire if it is not used for a one year period.

  • How do I check my usage?

    There is a live usage monitor in the 'My Sims' section of your on-line account. We will also send email alerts to your registered email addresses. You can add registered email addresses at any time, but may not remove the master account email address.

  • Can I change my bundle?

    If your bundle has expired or all of the data allowance has been used up, you are free to buy any new bundle for any zone. If you wish to change your bundle mid-term, then please see the below question.

  • I want to change my Zone before my bundle has been used up/expired, what can I do?

    You are able to upgrade the remaining data allowance in your active bundle to be usable in the new zone. The top up portal will make it clear how much data you have left and how much this will cost, and you can pay by any of the approved payment methods. The expiry date remains the same for this bundle.

  • Do I need to set up an account?

    This is optional, but we would recommend doing so. There are many benefits such as access to live usage, email notifications and the ability to link many sims under one account. It will also help you to top up in future if you forget or lose your Sim ID. There is no cost involved in creating your personal on-line account.

  • Can I add or convert bundles?

    You may add any data bundle from any of the three zones to your data SIM regardless of the initial SIM & bundle you purchased. For instance, if you bought the SIM and zone 1 European bundle, used half of the bundle, then decided to travel to the USA (covered by zone 2 bundles), you could upgrade the remaining data of the zone 1 bundle to work in zone 2 by paying the small difference in cost of the bundles. You could also add a new zone 2 bundle and this would be queued behind your remaining zone 1 bundle. The zone 2 bundle will then start as soon as the zone 1 bundle is fully used up. This process is fully accessible on your on-line account to help you manage your spend.

  • Placing your order

    Once you have placed your order we will dispatch it within 24hrs (Mon-Fri). Often you will receive your order within 48hrs (UK only). Dispatch options are available during checkout for domestic and international deliveries.

  • On delivery

    When your SIM card or SIM & MiFi arrive all you need to do is go online and create your personal on-line account. You can then choose if you wish to add a further data bundle to match your data requirements while you travel, or even select the auto top-up option. TIP: Should you wish you can also test the set-up in the UK before you leave.

  • Whilst abroad

    As soon as you arrive abroad all you need to do is switch on your unlocked device or the MiFi and you will access incredibly low data rates allowing you to instantly surf the web, post photos or check email, use Voip, search maps and post photos.

  • SIM Only

    Looking for SIM only? We also supply the SimplyRoam global SIM card without the MiFi. This is a great option if you already have an unlocked tablet, smartphone or your own MiFi. Just choose the SIM Only option from the drop down menu above.

With the data SIM you are in full control of your data usage and how much you spend. When you buy your Simplyroam data SIM it includes a pre-paid data bundle to get you started, enabling you to test it before you travel or to use it immediately on arrival at your destination. Your personal top-up portal can also be accessed on-line once you have registered an account - you can then monitor your usage, check validity remaining and manage many other aspects of your account including adding further data bundles. Data Bundle Validity

Each data bundle is valid for 30 days from first usage or until the data bundle is exhausted, whichever occurs first. Once you first use your initial data bundle that is provided with the SIM the 30 day period commences so plan any device tests ahead of travelling carefully to prolong the bundle validity. You may also select start dates on your personal account for future data bundles and also opt for auto top-ups if required.
